side effects of pregnancy...

so it's been confirmed by my family doctor that what i'm feeling in my hands (esp. the right one) is most likely carpal tunnel. apparently it's too soon to do more testing to confirm that. if it gets worse, then i'll go back and get a test done to see how compressed the nerve is. right now the only remedy is to wear wrist splints. might be able to take natural supplements to help it, but we'll see. sadly (or maybe it's a good thing), i'm getting used to the numb feeling in my fingers and the soreness in my hands. hopefully it will go away once the baby is born or else i'll have to have surgery to correct it. also had another ultrasound yesterday. either the technician is getting friendlier or i'm just getting more used to her. she gave me a half-smile this time around! and she was much better about explaining why i keep having to go back. apparently the radiologist at this clinic is "very picky" (in her words) and she hasn't been able to see one particular shot of the heart that she'd like to see. the tech thinks that she may have gotten it this time (she thinks that she sees that particular area), but it's up to the discretion of the radiologist to sign off on it. baby seems to be progressing quite well and the tech told me that he/she is of average size for this stage in the pregnancy.

ken and i also just finished a week off of work. the beginning seemed to go slowly, but tuesday rolled around before we knew it and then there was only one day left before having to head back to work. we didn't quite get all the things done that we wanted, but i guess it'll just take time. we also went to niagara for one night as our very mini-vacation of 2008. we spent the afternoon in niagara falls, ny at the outlet mall and target and then the night on the canadian side of the falls. we ended up going there cuz we found a good deal on travelzoo for one night's stay plus dinner. it was amazing to see how much cheaper baby stuff was south of the border. for example, the bumbo chair that retails for $59.99 here in canada was selling for $39.99 in the states. that night when we were at one of the hotels for dinner, i saw a group of 4-5 women come into the lobby each pushing a baby stroller. they also had a bellhop behind them pushing a very full cart of huge bags from babies r us and target (presumably filled with baby items). seemed like a fun girls' trip avec les bébés. it made me see the big plus of having babies around the same time as your friends.
