sugary sweet

today was the day of the big glucose tolerance test. after fasting for approximately 13 hours, i had to down about 300mL of what tasted like super sweet orange soda that was slowly losing its fizziness. i thought they'd only make me take a shot of syrup or something, but when the nurse brought out the glass bottle of orange drink, i was like "am i supposed to drink the whole thing?" i was told yes and that it had to be drunk in under 5 minutes. so i diligently took my seat in the waiting area and proceeded to chug my orange soda. i sat next to a pregnant lady who was four weeks behind me and she looked at my sympathetically as she told me that at her next appointment, she'd have to do the same test. the drink really wasn't as bad as i had been expecting it to be. after i finished the bottle, i went back to the nurses' station and they set the timer for me to get my blood drawn at the one hour mark. i was told to stay there until called. the blood lab area was super busy today so everyone was waiting a while. i ended up chatting with the other pregnant lady for about a half hour while she waited her turn. the hour went by fairly quickly and i was called promptly at one hour. i guess i won't find out my results until my next OB appointment in 3 weeks' time. have to say that i'm a bit nervous about it. i think i get nervous while waiting for all types of test results. maybe it goes back to the school days. also had an OB appointment this morning, to which ken accompanied me. he doesn't get to come with me often, so it was nice to have him with me today. we heard baby's heartbeat and blood pressure reading was good. up another 4 lbs. but i guess i'm still at the recommended average of 1 lb. per week so i'll try not to freak out too much. :o) we also found out that the last ultrasound i had was successful and they were able to get that illusive shot of baby's heart that he/she just wasn't showing before. apparently everything looks normal. yay!
