discovering the art of talking with your hands

this week, amelia has started using a few more words. the new words of the week are open, purple, and bao bao (chinese for "bun"). there are times when it almost sounds like she's saying a phrase too. she is most likely just imitating what she's heard, but she says something that sounds an awful lot like "here we go!" i've been trying to write down words as she says them and i think her word count is up to 19 now. she loves to just jabber though, but not using any actual words (see photo above). looks like we have a chatterbox on our hands!

this weekend we picked up a new toy for the lil miss. we discovered on our trip to D.C. that she likes riding in these little buggys. every time we go to the toy store, she always climbs in and wants us to push her around the store. we decided that we should get one for her since she clearly enjoys it so much, so off we went to troll kijiji. luckily, we found a brand new one for about 40% less than the store price. the weather was decent on sunday, so we went out for a stroll to the park post-nap. amelia *loved* it. she kept squealing the whole way to the park and wouldn't stop jabbering. the great thing about this buggy is that there is a long parent handle in the back so you can push them along without breaking your back at the same time. i predict that we will get a lot of use out of this toy and amelia and i can go for daily walks around the neighbourhood with it.

first outdoor tricycle attempt 

so since we wanted to give amelia a chance to ride her new buggy, we thought we'd take the opportunity to let nathan try out his tricycle. he still seems reluctant to pedal, but since this particular tricycle also has a parent handle, even if he didn't pedal, he would still go forward. ;o) he was willing to put his feet on the pedals, but not actually pedal. baby steps. we also need to work on his steering. can't wait until the weather warms up even more and we can shed the jackets!
