the last four days were quite chock full of new experiences for nathan. we took him on his first road trip on friday and came back late last night. lots of lessons learned. when travelling with baby, take things slow. the frenetic pace of non-babied life goes out the door. don't think you can accomplish more than one or two things per day. babies need their naps and our baby in particular doesn't nap as well "on-the-go". also, to borrow my hubby's expression, "it [was] hot as nuts" in pittsburgh. don't know what the weather was like in toronto, but on saturday it was sunny and HOT...like 30 degrees celsius hot. our poor babe is much like his mommy...not much for hot sticky weather. last night's drive home was quite the ordeal as well. we had to stop several times cuz nate was screaming like we were torturing him or something. we finally ended up at home just past 11 p.m. despite all that, ken still said he had an enjoyable 30th b-day.

today we took it easy. we went to our final sing & sign class and obtained a certificate! then it was naps for the rest of the day until evening when we met ken at fairview mall for baby's first professional photo session. we got this coupon from the babytime show for a free session plus one sheet of wallets. of course, we got suckered into buying extra poses because they were really too cute for words. at first, nate was a bit apprehensive since we stripped him down to only a diaper and then shoved him in a bowl of apples. that was then followed by a bowl of walnuts. then perched on angel's wings. all of these ken said were "too anne geddes" for his liking. nate finally warmed up to all those flashes and offered up many cute poses in the studio.

honestly, cute shots aside, i find these portrait studios a complete waste of money. the fees they charge are through the roof! and then the audacity to charge $99-$199 (promotional price, of course) for the CD of only the shots you choose to buy (as opposed to all from the session). and only as big as 150 dpi for 8x10. if you want the resolution any higher, you've got to shell out an extra $100! madness. but i guess that's how they pay the rent. i'm thinking i should invest in a backdrop (and maybe a light or two?) and just take my own baby portraits.
