we knew that nate would be experiencing a lot of firsts on this trip. what we hadn't anticipated (or at least, hoped to avoid) was baby's first illness. yesterday afternoon nathan started sounding like he had a barky lil cough. then it started to sound phlegmy. then overnight it seemed like he had a fever. ear thermometer read up to 38 degrees Celsius. we gave him some baby Tylenol.
this morning ken's mom called a friend whose brother is a pediatrician and was able to get us an appointment. at the doctor's office they took his temperature rectally (apparently more accurate) and it was at 102 degrees Farenheit! poor baby. he wasn't even complaining either. still smiling. so the doctor prescribed some medicine for him. he thinks it might be the flu. he's got a runny nose now too. poor thing. it's a good thing that we're in hong kong where ken's parents live. we were able to get nathan looked at quickly and hopefully his illness will go as quickly as it came. in the meantime, the three of us are staying in so that nate can get a lot of rest.
we're headed off to japan this sunday. hopefully his fever will have cleared by then or else i don't know what we're going to do. we'd probably end up quarantined if he still had the high fever. please pray for a speedy recovery for our lil nate.

Aww. He has two more days to get better. That's plenty of time.
Just erase any evidence of that picture of Nathan sitting on the pig in Pittsburgh. If any health authorities find that, you guys are screwed.
