home sweet home

we arrived back home wednesday night to foggy rainy weather. seems like we've had rainy weather for so long seeing as it was rainy for the last 5 days we were in HK. the flight home was good, though turbulent. unfortunately, nathan couldn't sleep very well since every time he fell asleep and we put him in the bassinet, the seat belt sign would go off and we'd have to take him out again. i think we had an overly cautious pilot. i suppose that is a good thing. ken and i weren't seated together on the return flight, which was a bit of a bummer, but the staff at the gate counter were very helpful and ended up getting him the aisle seat directly behind me. i guess they asked if someone would be willing to switch with him. the couple seated beside me were unwilling to move. they were an older chinese couple. in hindsight, i should've told them that i did not know how to speak chinese seeing as for the first half of the flight, they kept trying to give me/us advice on how to take care of our own baby. the dialogue went a little something like this:

convo 1.
them: WAH! you let him suck your finger?!?!?! you should give him a pacifier!
us: he doesn't like them.
them: you should make him get used to one.
ken: i think i know what my baby likes.

convo 2.
:::nathan crying due to tiredness; seat belt sign on = can't settle him by walking around:::
lady: give him some water already! i think he needs some water!
me: he doesn't drink water.
lady: you need to give him some. i haven't seen you feed him at all!
(note...lady had been asleep for a couple hours)
me: i have fed him several times! (accompanied by a you've-got-to-be-kidding-me-do-you-really-think-i'd-starve-my-child look)

from that point onwards, i angled myself so that my back would be facing them. any time the lady sitting next to me tried to engage nathan in any sort of play, i would face him the other way. hahah lesson taken away from all this: pretend to not understand chinese.

Seriously: what's with Chinese old people (and by that, I mean anybody over the age of fifty) and water?
